I know that Kari had some initial problems with the person who applies the numerals on his dials (the numerals on his prototype Vingt-8 at eight o'clock were applied as IIIV, for instance).
In this case, I suspect that what you are seeing is the play of light off of the angles of the applied numerals and some light bouncing off the guilloche. The VIII does look to be slightly mis-aligned with the circumference of the dial, but I'd have to see the piece in person to judge it for myself.
As I know from personal experience with my Observatoire, items that are aligned in real life can look crooked in photos! So perhaps best to reserve judgment on this one.

I couldn't help to notice this when I saw pictures of this p10 vingt 8 for the first time published in this site earlier. But looking at these pics again, I again notice the same possible mal-alignment of the roman numerals especially the "III" and V"III"...
