So which do I prefer, 18K white or rose gold?

 

I fully expected to prefer the RG LM1, given its link with traditional horology. But on the wrist I found myself drawn to the WG piece. The RG is more ‘old world’, but perhaps too much so. The WG creates a bridge to the modern world. It frames the movement perfectly and sets off the white lacquered subdials.

 

But the best news is that either piece is brilliant and unique. It’s not a case (pardon the pun) of simply providing different metals for the sake of it. Like the original YG and WG La Tradition’s from Breguet, they feel like different watches, both old and new, but perfectly harmonised.

(Max makes all the watches in a size that fits him comfortably, and he does not have a large wrist. You can see this attention to detail in the short lugs and wide straps. I rarely go past 42mm myself, but the LM1 is remarkably well proportioned and wearable …)
