My Happy Watch : Let’s talk about feelings !
Always, always, lifts the day. Most definitely my happy watch if there is such a thing.
Many watches on the wrist elicit certain feelings. Sometimes these are memories, and there is probably nothing stronger than memories of good times or people associated with watches.
Other times it may be a feeling of accomplishment or (relative) success. For many, Rolex, is often the watch that drives those feelings. Admittedly it is that case for me also. As I’ve said before what a great job Rolex has done at getting inside our heads !
Many of you know I’ve been a fan of Journe for a while. Those watches when on my wrist give me a feeling of conviction and confidence in my own watch direction. It may seem odd to say that today as anyone reading this will say “of course, Journe is the chosen one” or something related to resale prices. Yes, but when I was discovering the brand and taking the Journe path versus what may have been the Patek or Lange path (both of which I dabbled in) the future was irrelevant. It was simply buy what you like, what suits one’s own style and day to day.
Then there’s this Urwerk. I say it’s my “happy watch” because at some very basic level it just makes me happy. What I’ve said before is that buying this watch was one of the bigger gambles I’ve made in watches. Mostly because it is what it is, looks like it looks. But as soon as I took it home I knew it was the right choice.
That happy feeling is also in part driven by being happy to have gone against the grain a bit, Urwerk is not your everyday watch, not even something that long established collectors would see themselves own. That makes me happy.
