Moritz Grossmann Advice Needed !

Dec 29, 2021,21:28 PM

Hello everyone smile

Almost 7 years ago I tried a Moritz Grossmann in Dresden and I was very impressed with the models and the movement is simply stunning. Since I have a bit of all in my collection
(ALS, Patek, Rolex, Omega etc. etc.) I thought that may be next year I could get a Moritz Grossmann Benu watch.

I am thinking about 3 models so I look forward to your knowledge and valuable help in picking one for consideration  šŸ§

Here are some photos of the Benu Power reserve a tried back in 2015

More info and pricing (which seems to have skyrocketed since 2015) at https://boutique.grossmann-uhren.com/product/benu-power-reserve/?attribute_version=White+gold+ArgentĆ©&attribute_pa_strap-color=black&attribute_pa_closer=pin-buckle&attribute_strap-length=Normal

On a more budget side we have a new steel model with centre second

Full specs https://boutique.grossmann-uhren.com/product/central-second/?attribute_version=Stainless+steel+Blue&attribute_pa_closer=pin-buckle&attribute_strap-length=Normal

I like the casual look and the numerals that are similar to the previous model I tried. The finish seems slightly more spartan (yet not as spartan as the benu "pure" models that were done sometime ago and
didn't see on the site )

Last but not least  the vintage style of the same Benu Power reserve:
boutique.grossmann-uhren.com

pricing is the same as the first one.

I am torn as the gold models are more expensive than my Lange 1815 in Platinum !  There is also no AD in my country (actually, there is one but was pretty rude on the phone and prices are higher than in the online Boutique of the Manufacture in Germany). Having a good relationship with my AD for other brands I used to get at least some level of concessions. Travelling again to Dresden is out of question due to the pandemic but perhaps the AD where I saw the gold many years ago will be able to ship a rose gold one (vintage style dial).  Would you buy from the manufacture directly or try an AD willing to ship outside Germany ?

If the price is the same I think that buying from the manufacture directly could have some benefits (e.g. a totally new watch, not tried by many people šŸ˜).

thanks in advance for your suggestions/help
Christian

I think that the vintage one is stunning, that would be my pick.

I saw the blue steel one recently and ... I don't think it is as impressive as your other two choices. Finishing of the movement is a bit less elaborate, the hands and dial a bit less refined, it is much lighter than the gold counterparts. None of those a...

that is indeed different and lower pricing is reflected in the movement finish too..

They seem to make gorgeous watches

And have been on my radar for a while. I could only get one with the vintage logo though. Their standard logo is noxious.

Of these three, the last one. To me what I see (dial, hands, case) is a beautiful package.

I will add the white gold version does not have the same effect on me. I think the rose gold case warms up that dial a lot more. The white metal seems to give you a much colder watch, less appealing.

thank you, indeed in rose gold it is very appealing

more than WG and Platinum that I saw in the metal. Steel is at a difference price point so I remain interested

I quite like the Atum in rose gold with its enamel dial, or, more affordable, in steel, with its blue dial.

41 mm big, 11, 3 mm high, and a great looking movement: Best, Nicolas ...

I think the line is now called index but no steel in sight boutique.grossmann-uhren.com #contemporary also the previous models that were very well priced as "atum pure" are not available at the manufacturer boutique. Did you try them on ?

Great choice with an MG Benu!

No right answer here, it's just a matter of preference. Like you said, the vintage is very formal and classic, the center seconds is more moderm and casual, the original benu is somewhere in between.

thank you, indeed no right answers

I have a custom centre seconds hopefully coming next week. I love the vintage look but wanted a more daily wearer for my first MG, and I love the clean look if the central seconds. If you are buying direct from them, maybe you can explore unique colors an...

To be honest I am leaning toward steel as I can't really justify the price point of the RG. (I have several RG, WG and Platinum already). Especially not having a friendly AD in my country (Switzerland) is a big issue as I can't negotiate anything. Even fo...

Although Iā€™ve already got my eye on the RG Tremblage as my next purchaseā€¦and I havenā€™t even received my first one yet and my pocket book could definitely use the break! šŸ˜„. Also kind of surprised you donā€™t have a nice AD in Switzerland of all places. Is th...

I think you might be right about local manufacturing...

few years ago (2015 - 2016 circa) even Lange were difficult to move in Switzerland (good for me ). For Moritz Grossmann I think there were 3 AD in Switzerland back then. Now there is only one (not in the same city I live) and was pretty rude. When I asked...
