MB&F LM2 two week impression
Hello All:
The technology: Double balance wheels that go through a planetary differential which averages out the rates leading to better accuracy. Did I find out if it's more accurate? No. Do I care? No!
Who are the Friends in MB&F: Jean-Francois Mojon of Chronode & the master Kari Voutilainen.
Who else used it: Recently Philippe Dufour Duality and Greubel Forsey Double Balancier both use a similar system with a differential. Both very different interpretation to the LM2.
On first touch: It's a substantial watch - 44mm in diameter and 20mm in thickness. Yet somehow feels smaller on the wrist and fits very comfortably. The heft and the obviously amazing finishing smells of quality.
Further examination: Immediately struck by the three dimensional nature and the both balances draw you in. And it feels like the balances are just hanging from the flying buttress. Cant see the shafts run through dial from any obvious angles. There in lies the magic.
Turn it around: You are immediately drawn by the Geneva stripes and the deep chamfers on every edge. The engravings are harken back to a different era honoring the Legacy in the name.
Overall what a wonderful creation. I love so many things about this watch and the even the case that it came in. But I will reserve comments for another day.
J.
