Independents

Interesting news Gary

Always fun to discover new Indies. It makes me curious to discover what novelty can be put forward by the author.

By the way, how did you discover it? Just typing on google to see what it brings?

I like the fact that he created his own movement instead of just performing an aesthetical-only work. I was maybe waiting to read something different/new/original about the caliber's design, but it must already need a lot of work to design its own.

Concerning the watch, the style of the caliber's decoration is classic and remains quite simple and it indeed seems very well finished (this is an important point to me).

But maybe there is comething missing in the decoration. You can have a simple decoration philosophy, leading in something pure and sometime even contemporary, but here you have the classic finishings, the sand blasted bridges but I would maybe have liked something more on the bridges. Maybe a bit more "writings".

Other watchmaker have the same kind of plain flat sand-blasted bridges, whitout many inscriptions (Greubel Forsey, Kari Voutilaiene for example), but they have a little something more or the bridge's shape (edges curves) that is less classical and thus make it to be more coherent imho. I don't know if you see what I mean: to keep the decoration that neat maybe the angles' shape shouldn't be that conservative. The lines should maybe have been more linear. That's my own perception though.

By the way, I find  the name plateis a little bit odd at this place. I don't feel the perfect balance between classic and modern enough. The contrast is to strong and maybe the name plate is too big /bridges.

Otherwise, it's really nice and the finishing mastery seems to be strong from these pictures.

Concerning the case and the lugs I find them interesting and to have a strong identity, which is important for an Independant.

You mentionned the details of the dial you liked and I think I agree, the indexes railway (true more than ever), the open hands that are very nice, the strap.

I'll be curious to follow this name in the future, thanks for the discovery Gary smile

Cheers,

Mark
