Independents

I may not be the best reference point…

…as I’ve probably worn the watch 250+ days in the last year.  That alone more than hints on where I come out on this one.

I would like to own another.  Unsure of which of the current references, but a few would feel like nice partners to my C6.  But there’s also more to come (not the same as what’s come thus far) and so that’s to be considered also.

So rather than tell you all the great things maybe it’s more helpful to provide some reasons as to why might someone not like it?

The case could be smaller (for example the anniversary C is 39mm and that would be ideal in my opinion).

The lug to lug, or maybe more so the actual length of the lugs and how that appears on the wrist, it a bit too long.

For the C6 and other C with open worked dials, I find the seconds hand gets lost a bit.  (Keep in mind my aging eyes may be the primary issue here).

Limitation on straps.  You get what was chosen for the model.  You cannot get a strap from a C2 if you own a C6 (unless they share one of the same prescribed three colours).

Bracelet and straps are not interchangeable.  Two different cases.  Two different watches.  This has been a hiccup for some potential customers I know.

Bracelet versions.  The dials, except the open work, to me lack any depth.  I say this primarily as the markers and numerals are solid lume blocks without surrounds, and this lack of surrounds and the finish/polish one would have on them means to me there no depth on the dials.  (This was my biggest issue with the bracelet versions, I was originally trending towards buying one of those).

The DLC titanium cases (C2, C4) are a deep black and have a strong shine.  This is a very specific look.  Almost like what we see with ceramic on an AP.  It won’t work for many people who prefer their black watches to be more matte and less likely to catch the light.  (As a counter, I will add one note to the positive.  The contrast on the bezel in all the C variants is a real feature and that is executed just as well in these DLC cases).

The Carbonium is too light! Yes, some people will not like how light their luxury watch is.  The regular C is pretty light too, but the Carbonium will be “toy like” in some people’s minds.

Carbonium trades case material for some hand finish.  You will note the use of carbon inserts on the finger bridges and on the lower portion of the dial.  These replace the hand engraving seen on the other C references.  It may be that you can have both, you’d have to ask (and I assume some have).
