Independents

I'll try to explain....

but first I'll explain why your two examples are very different to the Speak piece...

The Lange 1 has 4 seperate components to the dial...time dial, seconds dial, date and power reserve.  None of which are similar and impossible to give symmetry too but the dial is balanced.  Different than the Zeitwerk which does have symmetry because it needs too...would it look the same if the 2 digital displays which are the same size and shape were at 2 and 6 O'Clock with the seconds dial and power reserve in other randon positions..? I don't think it would be appealing. (pics from the Lange website)

The GO Pano again has 4 completely seperate components to the dial so again for the same reasons as above it must be assymmetrical to work. (pic from the web)

The only example I can find which is a direct comparison to Peters work because it has 3 identical elements, in this case not dials but winders, is the Paul Gerber Purists edition which has 3 winding parts on the reverse which are perfectly symmetrical with the positions being at 12, 4 and 8. (pic from Purists)

The additional reason for my curiosity with Peters Triad is he is normally so perfectly symmetrical in his other work that this one is a change in style even within a piece which does have symmetry.  Peters winders on the reverse are symmetrical even down to the detail that they are a complete circle with additional weight to one side for it to spin.  On the Triad there are 2 screws at either side of the dial just below 10 and 2.  The lettering is symmetrical...even Speake Marin and Switzerland both have 11 letters, Triad is central at 6.

Don't get me wrong, I like Peters work and I also know him and once had a long chat with him over lunch about why he chose to have the positions of the date numbers, month and day display on his perpetual different to everybody else.  If you look his perpetual has Mon and Jan at the 12 position because it looked better, while everybody else (Patek Phillipe for example) has Sun and Dec at the 12 position, so I know he is very keen on symmetry.

But I'm just curious why he has chosen to have the 3 identical dials in a random position on this Triad if they don't rotate like a carousel..??

I hope this has answered a few of your questions....and hopefully not raised any more smile smile

Yours,

Andy.
