I just didn’t see the product/price ratio justifiable.
I’m like you, I appreciate a nice finish no doubt, but not at the loupe level, plus I wear my watches daily in all conditions, no mercy, therefore a Patek is good enough for me

This days, so many wanna be different with objects that all look the same… Most just wanna feel the internal emptiness, by buying the latest and greatest and what’s told to them by influencers/secondhand dealers!
Yeah, I remember seeing my first KV's in a case languishing for a buyer! I think with the indy hype KV has if anything become even more rare.
With the recent hype many established indies have upped production while new indies have jumped in with novel but freshman products but Kari is one of the few that has stayed on his path.

Same phenomenon as with still sports… as the Rolex hype took of, all brands came up with steel watches Now it’s the indies, what’s next? I’m guessing pocket watches…

The finishing hype I think has distorted the value of KV watches. For KV finishing is partly a byproduct of the true purpose which is longevity/durability.
Gold wheels for the self lubrication properties, burnished pins rather than simply polished to work harden the metal, frosting which surface hardens the plates, case designs that are easily polished, thicker plates to support bigger screws and more torque...
I agree totally with you, but let’s be honest, how many “collectors” are actually aware of this technical details?
Personally, I like his watches, probably the most out of all the indies but I think six figures for a time only is a bit high… But I’m happy for all who see what I don’t.
Totally, it's the same hype formula all over again and the value has shifted back to the more mainstream brands.
I have one indy watch still to be delivered this year and I'm excited about it but I've already started loitering at the Rolex AD, I'm ready to be put back in the matrix.
Well when your intro level Roger Smith is now over $300K USD, Kari seems like a bargain and will most likely continue to tick up.
With waiting lists over 7 years with 30% down. FPJ was also selling for a significant discount some 4 or 5 years ago. COVID, turbo boosted a lot of companies.

Seven years is insane, I don’t know if I wake up tomorrow, how can one go that long ahead? I tapped out of this race two years ago and I have no intention of buying any of this “waitlist” watches. Hope you get yours soon!
Not at all, however also not as impressive as I imagined.

It is quite possible, since I passed on them at the time.
I couldn’t justify the price then let alone now, unless you’re an investor which I’m clearly not…🤷🏻♂️

They are super slow via email. I ended up cancelling my order after another 2 friends had similar experiences…
I can o my speak from my experience which was great! Kari would return my email oftentimes the same day. That was 3 years ago, though.
I hope what you shared isn’t the new normal. Going through the design, choices, etc. was indeed special and it was all with KV himself
