Dominique Renaud Is Back (in many ways)!

Dominique Renaud is, of course, a towering giant in the watch industry. His eponymous firm, Renaud & Papi, now long part of AP, is responsible for multiple amazing developments.

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to see Dominique Renaud’s newest creation, the Pulse60. It is a fascinating, quirky piece that incorporates a new look, as well as some exciting new innovations. The watch is wonderfully comfortable on the wrist, and truly fun to watch in action with its giant, slow moving balance (sorry no video).

That said, as much as I enjoy this newest piece, my outing was aimed at visiting another wonderful Renaud creation—the Renaud Tixier Monday. On this piece, and in this venture, Renaud has teamed up with the much younger Justin Tixier, whose movement and finishing work is simply remarkable. The so-called Monday (because it is the first of seven planned watches) is a work of art; the movement is spectacular, the case finishing is beautiful, and the newly introduced dials are (to me) much improved from the initial designs (though the original dials have a beautiful simplicity). Renaud’s influence, especially on the unique micro-rotor design and function, is central to the watch, of course.

With apologies for the poor phone image quality, here is the remarkable Monday that captured my fascination:

There are many watches now out there with spectacular movements and stellar finishing. To me, this joins that elite group. And it does so in a watch that’s attractive and sized to be comfortable on the wrist. Truly happy with this one.
