Confessions of a recovering collector.

Like many here, I had a number of collections. Pens, cuff links, carpets, antique furniture, old manuscripts, icons, etc. I had an urge to acquire and complete collections for the sake of having achieved a goal. With that mind set the chase was the adrenaline that fuelled the urge to collect.
Once I retired and moved a few times internationally the possessions lost their attraction and we divested ourselves of most of them accept for those for which we could not find a suitable donee or chose to retain.
When my interest turned to mechanical watches I no longer thought of myself as a collector. I merely wanted to acquire a few timepieces that spoke to me aesthetically and that fit my lifestyle. The chase was a necessary step but it’s the possession and use that gives me satisfaction.
I may or may not expand my current roster but it’s getting harder to want another piece given that I feel I have all my bases covered.
