Believe it or not! I used to only buy dress watches!! :-)

Until I saw this yesterday! I had been hounding my Malaysian AD for four months on the availability of the Louis Erard Alain Silberstein. Yes the box set of all three watches would have been nice but as time passed, I gave up on this watch as the box set was only limited to 78 watches and each of the three models were limited to 178 pieces. The monopusher chronograph being nominated at next month's GPHG did not help matters either so after five attempts, I decided not to bother the AD, mumbling to myself like a spoiled brat at rubbish allocation and poor service!
Then yesterday afternoon, I received a message from the much abused AD that they had received two Louis Erard Alain Silberstein watches - the date model and the monopusher chronograph. The regulateur was destined never to arrive on our shores which is a pity really as the dimensions were more forgiving than the monopusher chronograph. On paper, this chrono has dimensions I would not usually entertain - 42mm diameter, 47.7mm lug to lug and 13.9mm thick - all wrong if you ask me for my dainty wrist. But I had to try this watch on even though I knew it was a lost case. I had arranged with my AD to view the watch at 7.15pm and he conveniently called me two hours before to say that someone had walked in to place a deposit on the date model and there was no guarantee that the monopusher chronograph would still be there at 7.15pm - unnecessary pressure and I resumed in my mind the barrage of four letter words (not 'love') at my AD.
When one has such a negative mindset before trying on a watch, it is not often that one is enticed by the watch and worse still, ends up acquiring the watch but that is exactly what happened to me! For someone whose collection comprises dress watches, to say that this Louis Erard is a departure of what I usually wear is an understatement. I love the comfort of the light titanium case, the nylon strap which I virtually cannot feel and that crazy dial. I am even using the chronograph function because I prefer to see the second hand moving continuously! The thickness of the watch would usually bother me big time and my thickest watch prior to this was my Seiko Presage at 11.8mm but the design of the Louis Erard necessitates that the watch is not thin. See, I am even trying to justify a thick watch so I have definitely been swept off my feet!
I am off now for a small get together with Richard N and Joey Lee so let's see if they are half as enthusiastic as I am about this latest acquisition of mine.
Thanks for reading and have a pleasant weekend!
