The first watch looks unfinished

I recognize the technical mastery of GF watches but could never imagine wearing one. They just don't appeal to me.

Seen at Watchtime: Greubel Forsey's Hand Made 1 (and a few others). What do you think?

What a pleasure to try this on and give it a loupe look-over! Certainly something to see in person, if possible. Notice the cork strap! Alligator will be phased out soon for GF watches, is what I was told. It's about 13mm thick, 39.6mm wide. The finishing...

Very fair, the aesthetic isn't for me, either!

I think they can come off as a bit of a mess.

Here's to simple tastes! 😸

Thanks for sharing. The first shows a mastery of finishing, but the dial design is not as cohesive as other GF, in my opinion (including the two others you've shown).

The enamel parts don't integrate that well, I think. And the hands feel a little lost. By the way, are the hands actually blue, as shown on the GF website? Of these three, the second is my favorite for the harmony of its technical and aesthetic qualities....

You're welcome! Yes, it's a sort of deconstructed dial with multiple levels shown.

The hands are flame blued and go from almost black to electric blue when they catch the light. The GMT is really quite busy as well. Agreed, the simplest watch maybe is the most wearable one.

I'm envious!!!

Must be quite the experience to see this in real life!

Yes, as far as watches go, it made watchtime for me.

The real draw is the people you meet.

What’s amusing to me is…

…the polarity in comments; from (the first watch) looking unfinished to it representing a mastery of finishing. Of course it’s the latter. The other general comment I have is that GF begins to look like an absolute bargain these days. “These days” being t...

With regards to the polarity of comments...

There a many, many new "collectors" these days and they don't yet have an understanding of what something like these truly are. P.S. Yes, I am playfully picking on Cazalea

D'oh, I thought Cazalea meant unfinished as in the watch looked like it was not done being made!

It's super well finished in person, of course. Agreed on relative value. Plus, the hand made is about preserving the skills to make such a watch, which has a value all its own.

I notice I've messed up the Hand Made 1's dimensions, which are 43.5mm

The simpler Greubel Forsey Balancier Contemporain pictured is the 39.5mm watch.

I'm out then!

Not that I could buy one though.

Ha, yes, I was finding reasons not to buy one as well!!

Other than the million Swiss Franc reason! Hand made (however that term is defined) watches tend to be thick and sometimes wide.

The second one for me please!😉

As for the Hand Made1, I remember seeing a YouTube documentary about the creation of this piece, and it clearly shows that the plates and gears are CNC cut then manually finished. So at this level and price I feel that the term “Hand Made”, is used a bit ...

Oh, that's different than what Peter Chong reported on his Deployant site.

Can't say which is true and I agree that CNC'd parts aren't quite as Hand Made as might be claimed.

They are wonderfully finished...

...but are just too big for most people, including me and my 7.25" wrist. I would love to see them do a slim, time-only watch that costs less than an S-Class Mercedes... Other sources have the watch at 43.5mm so not small by any means. I would also like t...

Yes, a bit big except for the balancier, which is the 39.5mm one. Can't help with the price, though!

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : October 24th, 2021-20:01
I flubbed the width of the Hand Made 1. I will say in real life...the Hand Made is also not that legible!

Which is exactly my concern about the dial...

 By: mdg : October 24th, 2021-21:28
...and the Balancier is 39.6mm x 12.21mm...better. I just wish they hadn't written a novel on the back of that one. I'm buying a watch, not a book : )

I asked what would happen if I chanted the mantra on the back.

 By: Spangles - Dr. Tabby : October 24th, 2021-22:03
In Tibetan Buddhism, there are usually signs associated with a given mantra, such as particular dreams and outer manifestations that show you're doing the practice correctly. I think the GF rep said, "Well, then you'll definitely get a Greubel Forsey!" Co...

These GFs are so amazing and beautiful

Absolute masterpieces imho
