Hublot

Great report & card info...

Great report Andrew... has got me (more) excited about Basel and what we will see there... esp the carbon fibre repeater!

Anthony, the card works well as you say on the original sale but also offers quite good checks for the buyer on the secondary market but of course much easier on a face to face transaction.  The WISeKey card is plugged into a special reader (H shape of course!) on your computer which pulls up the Hublot verification page and shows on the screen a picture of the watch together with the serial number etc so that you can check it is genuine.  If not face to face, then you could always ask for a screen print of this information (not so easy as could be tampered with) or to have the card sent first (after a deposit maybe?) for example (there is only one card per watch) so that you could check.  If you are already a Hublotista member you can of course check which watches other people own (if they give permission) so that you could tie up the watch with the owner that way to know they own a genuine model.

It is far better than the old guarantee cards which you can actually just purchase on auction sites (same for most watch companies) which there is no way of verification unless you want to take that watch into an AD.   The card itself also has impressed on it the serial number (like a credit card) as well so even if not in front of a computer is not as easy to replicate as the old cards.    I am sure that many other brands will come online with this system in the years to come (and an announcement of one at Basel this year) and it will be quite normal to see these types of checks on the secondary market.
