Horological Meandering

Will post when I get it back! Should have taken a before photo... doh!

Well I am biased as a Hublot nut but the amfAR is a great watch.  The colour scheme is just great and of course the purpose of the watch is wonderful.

I think that after wearing the watch for a week you would not even notice the buttons as it would all just blend into one.  I was surprised how it looked when I handled one the other week and even though I liked the original more in terms of design the new ones are not hideous.

The advice I was always given (and by the guy who tests the water resistance at Hublot) was it is OK to take them diving if tested to say 100m+ but just don't press the chrono buttons as water could get into the case.  I used to take only my JLC diving but maybe I have just been lucky to date but have taken nearly all of my sports watches diving at some stage and had no problems (touching wood)!   I do not dive deep enough for the pressure to push the buttons in enough to break the seal I guess (average probably 30m).  The interesting thing is that when the reef would be clicked on (as long as it did not touch the buttons to start with) you would actually not be able to knock them by accident as they would be totally covered by the instrument?

It leads me to the question on how do sports watch makers (Suunto, Oceanic, Mares, etc) manage to make their dive watch looking computers totally waterproof?  I remember one of the buttons on my old Mares fell off and inside you could see the spring and pusher but it continued to work fine.  I know it is digital but the process must be the same I guess, maybe with just a bit more pressure required for the mechanical version.
