I recently caught up with a friend who works with leather and I soon realized how ignorant I was when it came to tanning methods used and the environmental and health effects of Chromium when used in the industry.

Didn’t know anything about this earlier & regrettably haven’t given a thought about it either... Did a quick google, almost less than handful watch straps made with veg. tanning & I hardly see any big names in the business! Best, Mahesh.,
Saida, a tannery worker, in her home in the Indian city of Kanpur. She is one of many workers and locals who suffer from serious skin conditions, believed to have been brought about by having contact with toxic waste water from local tanneries. [nt]
