Well well well - Who won at the 2011 Concours International de Chronometrie

The results of the Chronometry competition of 2011 was announced and in the classic /traditional segment  ( i.e. standard escapements) the following were the participants.

Artisan d’Horlogerie d’Art Voutilainen, Môtiers – Voutilainen, Cal. 28

Chopard & Cie, Meyrin – Chopard L.U.C. “1937″, Cal. 1.010

MHVJ, Le Sentier – MHVJ Chrono T1000, Cal. 2005.100

Mido S.A., Swatch Group, Le Locle – Mido Baroncelli Gent Chronometer, Cal. 2836-2

Montres Journe S.A., Genève – F.P.Journe Chronomètre Souverain, Cal. 1304

Technotime S.A., Les Brenets – Technotime, Cal. TT 738.00

Tissot S.A., Swatch Group, Le Locle – Tissot Le Locle, Cal. 2824-2

And guess who the winner is;

TISSOT with 764 points out of the possible 1000 ( ETA 2824 must be grinning from ear to ear)

F.P.Journe - could collect 488 points  and came a very distant second!!! ( Cal 1304 revered by many as the chosen one for chronometric values).

Infact only 2 watches out of the above 7 made it to the finish as per the reports. ( 3 failed to meet ISO 3159 and two stopped working during the tests - we will never know which ones!!)

Amazed equally that Voutilainen did not make the cut at all.

Some lessons to be learnt here I suppose in focusing on the importance time-keeping qualities of a calibre rather than -  finishing and style ....

So  atleast two AHCI gentlemen must be wondering where they got their basics wrong that their watches did not even meet the "soft" standards of the competition.

( Of course FPJ now can rightly claim that the watch was placed second in the Chronometry competition of 2011 in adverts).

Wondering what would happen if higher standards are applied.

Time for the swiss watch making industry to open up the competition to all players and with better standards.

I also cannot figure out why the big names had stayed away  from participation in the 2011 competition.
