Bruno.M1's post highlights the astonishing market trajectory of F.P. Journe timepieces, particularly the Chronomètre Bleu, which has seen its value skyrocket into the six figures. This discussion explores the underlying factors contributing to these unprecedented prices and questions the sustainability of such rapid appreciation for a brand that, not long ago, aimed for accessibility. Bruno.M1's observations set the stage for a deeper dive into how a relatively young independent watchmaker has come to dominate auction results and collector aspirations.

It was to be expected that this one would become expensive… but still, heading towards 11 million is just insane. Well, it’s no surprise that the Chronomètre Bleu now easily goes for 150–200K. It’s only a fraction of the Coppola, but on the other hand it has become their most iconic piece. Impressive that such a young brand can create something like this. The Chronomètre Bleu has now surpassed the status of the Nautilus, Royal Oak, and Daytonas.

About the F.P. Journe Vagabondage I Ref. vagabondage

The F.P. Journe Vagabondage I represents the inaugural reference in the Vagabondage series, introduced in 2004. This reference establishes the foundation for F.P. Journe's exploration of unconventional time display concepts within a compact case format.

The 36.5mm platinum case houses the manual-winding caliber 1509 movement, delivering 40 hours of power reserve. The silver dial is protected by sapphire crystal, while a fixed bezel maintains clean lines. Water resistance extends to 30 meters, and the watch is completed with a leather strap.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking F.P. Journe's approach to alternative time displays in a more intimate case size. The platinum construction and manual movement align with the brand's commitment to traditional materials and hand-winding mechanisms. As the first Vagabondage reference, it occupies a specific position for collectors interested in F.P. Journe's horological concepts beyond conventional displays.

I was watching.

And I was at the preview earlier this week. The sentiment around Journe was incredibly positive. The expectations for all Journe lots in the auction were very very high. And it proved right. When a non mechanical watch, of which many many thousands exist, can easily command six figures then a CB or CS should drive a higher price. Big prices like this just beget more consignments. Up to a point, until all these great watches have switched hands and sit with much deeper pockets. I feel like anyone

agree ... CB is around 50 pieces per year I believe

used to be around 100 per year but I believe they reduced that since a couple of years.

I think it’s less now.

Only for special clients at this point.

Funny that this started as an entry piece… or was intended to.

for a watch that was his entry level watch 15 years ago

strange how things do change It started as an entry-level watch to make the brand more accessible at a time when the economy was doing poorly. And now it’s extremely hard to get. It’s just weird... like Patek only selling the Aquanaut to VIPs ... You need to have a collection of repeaters and tourbillons and than we will consider you an aquanaut 5167
