Horological Meandering

Unitas 6497

Yes, this was an intersting piece. My understanding is that the 6497 was originally designed for pocket watches and the small seconds subdial would be 180 degrees from the crown, so at 6 o'clock on a pocket watch, traditional layout. Stowa has some 6498 Fliegers where the movement was modified to so it could be put in a wrist watch and the small seconds sub dial would be 90 degress from the crown and thus a more traditional location of 6 o'clock on a wrist watch. Apparently they had some 6497s laying around and decided to make a limited edition of 15 Fliegers and that's why the subdial is at the somewhat unconventional 9 o'clock position.
