Horological Meandering

Two brands completely different and yet somewhat similar....Parmigiani and Ulysse Nardin.

I was cleaning my watches today and noticed how much my Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Chronograph and my Parmigiani Kalpa have somewhat similar attributes while at the same time being so completely different.

Both have the same etching (guilloche, although I'm guessing not really but instead stamped) in the center and both are rather distinctive in their color choices. And both come from houses that have interesting recent (fairly recent) horological achievements.

The UN could be argued has a rich history but  like a lot of horological history was bought and paid for at a much later date, but the recent achievements are pretty spectacular. The Astrolabium in 1985, the Planetarium in 1988 and the Tellurium in 1992 as well as of course the Freak.

The Parmigiani can lay claim to the Bugatti Series as well as the Ovale Pantographe.

But being a poor peasant, I live in less rarefied air.

Anyways thanks for looking and blame it on boredom and the pandemic.
