The Sarpaneva positioning

seems to be "affordable independent" watches.
As he gets bored easily and does not want to make production runs of thousands of units, Stepan looks likely to make small runs of each "model" before moving on to the next design. This self-limiting production makes a Limited Edition by default although we don't know the limit set at the beginning before a new design is made.
Multiple combinations of design (remember Finnish modularity?) may allow the few lucky owners of each combination to feel that they have an almost unique but affordable watch....not made by a conglomerate.

MTF

Thanks for the fantastic article, Melvyn. It's invaluable to hear from the watchmaker himself on what influences him, and how those ideas or experiences come across in his timepieces. I feel as though I appreciate Sarpaneva's work even more now. Cheers,...

So far, Stepan has done it right. But, he got to be careful not to allow his watches to be associated with designer watch, IMHO. Regards Ling
