To me, JCB has always been a man of the people, genuinely interested in bringing accessible entry-level luxury to his audience. What he did with the brands Tag Heuer, Hublot, Zenith, Omega sum that up perfectly. My favorite JCB moments are the personal notes he’d write to new Hublot owners who were thrilled with their new Big Bangs. He always felt accessible, open and a friend to all collectors, irrespective of status or wealth. To me, his vision was always accessible, bold designs for all collectors at all price points, with few barriers, no judgements or grand exclusivity. I think that’s why so many identify with him. So I’m just surprised to see him start with a $500K watch, that’s all. It’s not a criticism, it’s just not what I would have expected.
