Role of the Boutique

One would think that the role of the manufacturer's boutique would be primarily one of marketing and PR with the occasional sale of a high-end "boutique-only" piece thrown in to break the monotony ;-). However, I have experience at least a little sales pressure to purchase non-limited pieces from a few NYC boutiques at MSRP. Apparently, there are non-WIS types who do not realize that there are usually discounts to be had at ADs more or less around the corner.
Out of all of the boutiques I currently know of in NYC (Breguet, BP, AP, Franck Muller, Piaget, Winston, Bulgari, Cartier, Jacob, Weil and I am sure others that I am forgetting), only one so far has ever suggested that they would discount. If I were an AD, I would be extremely ticked off if I found that I was in competition with a manufacturer's boutique, but the watch industry is nothing if not "interesting" ;-)

Jimmy and the other who work in the Breguet store are great. Professional, nice and they provide a "no pressure" atmosphere; I very much enjoy spending time at this location and the many events that I have attended. Best, West
