I know a couple of people who work in watch/jewellry retailers. They have in the last few weeks had a boom time in selling really high end stuff (3 PP's in a weekend, one at £24k) etc,etc
the difficulty lies in the more 'affordable' end, where this years cumulative price rises have been nothing short of spectacular. Just one instance was a Chopard MM watch, one week £2600, the next £3600! Absolute madness.
As Graham mentions above, we in the UK are unfortunate that the slide in dollar prices has done nothing for our ability to buy, as the pound has taken such a hammering. I live in hope that the speculators are going to fall on their faces after the last few months of insane second hand prices (6497 Panerais spring to mind, I love Panerai, but the astronomic prices for the 249, 127 and 217 are just laughable)
Here's hoping for a more sensibly adjusted world in the future, i'd like to think I could state that for all world affairs, but i might be sorely disappointed if I did
