Horological Meandering

My latest acquisition

The Glycine Incursore ARCO II

It's 44mm in diameter and 11mm thick. Large but perfectly wearable.

The movement is an ETA 2824-2 with obligatory Geneva stripes on the rotor.

One shortcoming is that although the dial has no date aperture, the date mechanism is still on the movement! You can feel and hear the click of the date switching when you turn the hands round 24 hours. But it does not bother me - at this price range that is forgiveable.

Both front and back crystals are mineral.

The dial is a clever mix of colours - the largest section is a tobacco colour, not black as in the photo, the outer seconds ring is bright orange and the central hour subdial is a copperish-orange tone. All complement each other perfectly.

Some may find the hour hand a bit too short. Initially I felt it seemed awkward but after wearing it for a while it looks fine since focus of reading time is usually on the minute hand.

Glycine has put some effort in presentation; the watch comes in a wood box with a spare strap and a Bergeon tool for switching straps.

I love the dial and colour of this watch. On the after-market black strap with orange stitching, this looks smashing. Furthemore, retail for this watch is well under $700. It is a brilliant buy and worth every penny.

(This model is also available in other dial colours which can be seen on the Glycine site.)
