My 1 week review of my Timex Waterbury GMT

Nov 12, 2021,02:15 AM

I’ve wanted a Quartz GMT for a while but most are hard to come by that I actually liked. My original thought was to get a Davosa GMT Quartz but they were sold out so I decided to get this instead.

Ok I’m gonna give my good my bad and rather or not I believe this is a good watch.

Pros
Great size 39mm
11.5mm thickness
20mm lugs
Good lume
Independent GMT hand
100m

Bad
Unidirectional bezel not bidirectional
Cheap hollow end links
Quartz instead of Automatic
Non screw down crown

When I first received the watch I had mixed feelings on one hand I liked it but on the other I wished it offered more. But after a few hours of wearing it I ended up liking it more and more. For a Quartz
its pretty well made. But like the good there are some bad first I wanna start with the two tone color Timex decided to use well it’s not your typical Rose gold but more like a cooper if that makes sense? Second issues I have is they didn’t even bother coloring the underside of the bracelet (probably for cost cutting) third it uses hollow end links I get that this isn’t an expensive watch but I’ve seen micro brands in this price point, offer solid end links, forth only has a unidirectional bezel and my last complaint the GMT function.Yes you can operate the GMT hand independently by pushing the pusher at the 2 O’Clock more on that in a bit. I understand Timex isn’t what we’d call luxury but if they fixed those issues I listed this maybe a sleeper in the watch world.

The pusher at the 2 can set the gmt hand independently it does the job well but if Timex had switched the GMT hand with the Main hour hand it would be a true GMT. Maybe this is something we’d see in future models? The GMT only advances forward and according to Timex can be off set by 30 minutes the longer you push it the faster it sweeps around the dial.

Two Tone is nicely finished but my small complaint is Timex doesn’t have this listed as Rose or Copper? My eyesight isn’t that good like it use too be so it’s mine and anyone’s guess

The lume is surprisingly good I was surprised they didn’t offer indiglo but I’m actually glad they didn’t use it on this watch.

Now it’s time for my rating max is 100 points

Case Size 7
Finish 5
Comfort 6
Lume 8
Movement 5
Bezel action 8
Water Resistance 9
Clasp 4
Total 52/100

I was originally gonna give the movement a 6 but had to knock it down 1 point because of it not being a true gmt but if they fixed it like I mentioned it would be a hit. So in my conclusion do I recommend this Timex? Well yes if you want an everyday grab and go GMT with a good look from a respectable brand. Anyways thanks for taking the time and reading my review.

The gmt hand moves at a snails pace unlike most GMTs when setting the time it stay put but it does move as time goes on just very slowly. I don’t know what movement is used? The way I would use it, would be to keep the GMT hand as a 24hr hand use the beze...

Thank You
