Like father, like daughter - some further horological adventures of the next generation
May 11, 2017,03:17 AM
Some weeks ago has been Girls Day in Austria. It is a series of events organised by companies, trying to get girls / women interested in more technical professions. Mine is three, and fully convinced she will be either a physician or a firefighter, so instead of offering to show her various other occupations, I took the route of consumption and went to look for another watch for her. With her, of course - she has a very definite will and decides on her own.
In the end, we returned home with two watches - I guess like father like daughter (or is it the other way around?).
A FlikFlak for her, and a Swatch Sistem 51 Irony for me. To be quite honest, there is little modern available sized for a three year old one, so it's hardly like there was much choice in terms of manufacturer for my daughter.
As it turns out, this moment of horological bonding between daughter and father also brought out the previous watch of hers into action - she is now much more keen to wear it and 'wind it'. Given that it is quartz, it means setting the time - but then again it is more the fun than accuracy at this point
I guess the plexi could do with a bit of polish but then again, there is little point to it
At any rate, two happy horologists sharing a fun afternoon! And nice to be able to pass on the hobby to our children - that way, one day they will start 'borrowing' our other watches, too - for the long run
