Horological Meandering

I have heard unconfirmed rumor that George Daniels has passed, if so it is a very sad day for the horological world.. Without his inspiration, I doubt I would be the watchmaker I have become / am becoming, and hope that the Smith/Daniels collaboration is ... 

Was hoping it wasn't the case, I would have liked to meet him, possibly chat over tea and biccies.. I'll just have to double the time I'd like to spend with Roger, at least it sounds like he went peacefully, and has lived a one and fruitful life.. T

it is very sad and this year seems to be a bad year for watchmakers where we seem to have lost several.

Hats off please, the Master has departed.

A hugely important figure in modern watchmaking - an inspiration to so many of the independents working today. IMHO his pocket watches are some of the most beautiful watches ever produced, by any maker, and along with my copy of 'Watchmaking', the catalog... 

A man of his abilities. Makes this week's purchase of 'Watchmaking' even more important, I guess. [This sad but important information should be moved to HoMe, in my opinion]

Without Mr. Daniels book Watchmaking the chances that I would have started out with my watchmaking would have been infinately smaller. I had the great honour of meeting Mr. Daniels once at a BHI event. The world has lost a great craftsman and a gentleman.... 

The late Mr George Daniels, CBE, FSA had a shaky start in life; he later found that officially, he had not been born. There was no birth certificate as he was begat out of wedlock and his parents did not register the fact. His jouney through Time is now l...

George Daniels...he is and will be remembered as one of the greatest minds.

Sad to hear. He was an inspirational figure, and I enjoyed watching his youtube interview from the PeoplesArchive project- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSeTi93f2eU Does anyone know where the reprint of his memoirs "All in Good Time" is available? Can't ... 

The reprint of the biography Is due out later this year I believe. I hope anyway, as I still have to obtain a copy :-) T Tom Ashton Watchmaker
