I will follow the plan of a friend who collects clocks...
He and I discuss our hobbies and he says,
when I am 70 years old, I am going to sell off all but a few favorites. My wife and children wouldn't know what to do with them, and this way I get decent value and they go to reasonably good homes.
I might choose a later birthday, but the principle is sound. I have children and grandchildren, and I'll hand over some jewelry and rugs and one or two special watches while I am able or if not leave written instructions. I will give or bequeath some other watches to friends (being older than most of my collector friends means that this is not merely talk.) But my kids would really rather just have the cash.
