I looked it up and Alviero Martini is part of the group, but I wasn't even aware it was selling watches...
The only reason why I know this brand is that they had a huge store right in the middle of the main "popular" shopping street in Genova (called via XX Settembre), where they would display all kinds of leather products for women (their products are very recognizable, with maps printed on them). I'm pretty sure I've seen it elsewhere too in Italy. That store is now gone (like many other stores in Genova!), but the brand still seems active ;-)

I believe the Seiko era covers only a few years of Yema history.

Why is Yema also called the Seiko of Europe?

Yep, HoMe is the general section for watch discussions and for all (non-independent) brands without a dedicated subforum.
The definition of independent is of course not rigid or unanimous (personally, I even consider Patek as an independent! ;-), but at least when a brand is owned by a group, the general consensus is it doesn't qualify. It looks like Yema is not under Seiko ...

Both Nicolas and David were very responsive and their email updates were right on. The quality of my watch is on par with the price I paid but like anything else it could improve. Overall, I cannot complain.
