Horological Meandering

Following Nico’s request, some shots of the Raketa Avantgarde 🚀

The other day Nico asked for some more pictures of the Raketa Avantgarde. A watch where Emir Kusturica used El Lissitzky’s form language in designing the dial and hands, it is one of the collection of Raketa’s watches celebrating the Avantgarde (like the Big Zero Malevich).

And while Raketa is far removed from its heyday (the 1970s) volumes of ~5 million pieces annually, it still holds to its approach of building everything, including hairsprings, in house.

This watch has the in-house automatic caliber 2615 movement, which was developed after the modernization of the facilities and brand in 2011 (with some support from the Swatch Group). It’s a slow beating, 18.000 vph movement but that somehow fits well with the hand design in my opinion.

It’s not large at 40,5mm but wears larger due to the very thin bezel. The 22mm lug width also supports that visual impression (fortunately the lugs are short enough to fit smaller wrists comfortably).

And while the highly domed crystal makes it difficult to photograph, it’s always a watch that brings a smile to my face. And it assisted me in my most difficult border crossing, so it’s something of a lucky charm 🍀

Here some favorite shots (hope these suffice, Nico 😊):
