Except when I'm considering buying a watch, I'm not interested in watch prices, any more than I am in the price of works of art.
The art market, like the watch market, is a legitimate reality, of course, but it's disconnected from the core of both activities: artistic creation and watchmaking.
A true watchmaker never makes a watch with the primary goal of selling it and with the price they'll get as their obsession. True watchmakers, as you know (and you know several of them), are passionate, and they would continue making watches even if it didn't bring them much money. The same is true of authentic artists, in my opinion.
That's why these two markets don't really interest me.
That's just my feeling, of course, and as you say, it's great that the discussion is open and everyone is expressing their ideas.
Best, Emmanuel
