I suppose this is what sets the specialist apart from the generalist. A specialist would seek out the originals (or already have them). A generalist is happy with modern re-editions (if quick enough off the mark). I'm rather in the latter camp. Much as I appreciate am Omega-Tissot 3.33 from the 1930s (or some such), I'm more than content with a modern watch revisiting these old gems.
As such I tend to take a relaxed view on matters that animate some folks. "But it's fauxtina!" to which my thoughts are that it's just a colour. "It's a homage!" Well, yes, that's the point: 80%+ of new watches build and trade on nostalgia. And so on and on.
I would have LOVED to have grabbed the brown dial Airain Type XX that snuck out not so long ago, but I spend so much time sleeping at the wheel that opportunity - along with many more like it - passed me by. No matter, they're still fine watches (both the originals and their reincarnations).
