Cool post, Harry.

I have often wondered what my "two watch" collection would be and out of the 2'pieces I already own:
1) Omega 300M master co-Axial - escapement, George Daniels connection; historical pedigree, anti-magnetic technology

2) Glashutte Original Senator Karree Perpetual Calendar - PC in my opinion is the most useful complication in a wristwatch (chronograph I never use; and minute repeater is amazing but strictly unnecessary).

My only quibble would be that neither Of the above is an independent maker.
So, perhaps we can start. New thread called "3 watch collection", heh?

Happy Xmas from a fellow Aussie

Two Great Watches

 By: Harry2 : December 24th, 2016-22:29
Merry Christmas Purists! I was on night shift not long ago, reading through Hodinkee as I often do and I rediscovered one of my favourite columns, 'The Two Watch Collection'. This column is particular important to me at the moment for two reasons: One is ...

Cool post, Harry.

I have often wondered what my "two watch" collection would be and out of the 2\'pieces I already own: 1) Omega 300M master co-Axial - escapement, George Daniels connection; historical pedigree, anti-magnetic technology 2) Glashutte Original Senator Karree...

That sounds like a plan to me!

I actually think three watch collection is a good idea! That way you get variety but still get to wear your watches a lot and have a strong relationship with them. I have my Seiko \'gym watch\' but that doesn\'t count! I like that pair, the Daniels escape...

Cheers Harry.

THe Omega 300SM is awesome. The perfect sports/weekend watch for me. It is probably the only watch I will keep for life, while flipping everything else at some time in future. You can even dress it up a bit, although, it is a bit too sporty for the office...

It's definitely a good keeper.

I would love to see a Railmaster with the new co-axial movement. I could imagine that being a fantastic watch for me (if I got one without a pocket watch movement). It is becoming an obsession for me.

My guess is OMEGA will be releasing a Railmaster at Basel 2017.

Can\'t fault you on the pocketwatch movements. I do like them, but unfortunately they usually wear HUGE on my wrist

It's an acquired taste!

It\'s kinda of like when you get to the two dozen oysters stage....

Sorry - couldn't help myself.

Thank you for this post.

It takes a lot of discipline to narrow it down to two watches. If I had to do it (and sell everything, horrors!), I would opt for a high end steel sports watch (nautilus or AP RO) and a dressier watch in a precious metal, perhaps a chrono or calendar comp...

Hi J.

 By: Bounce781 : December 25th, 2016-00:13
I\'ve found that I never wore a more expensive sports watch, so ended up selling the AP RO that i owned. I was too worried about damaging the watch so I never wore it for serious "sports" activities I was doing The Omega 300M, I find, is the perfect sport...

That's a great combo.

 By: Harry2 : December 25th, 2016-00:59
I agree with our friend though. I would steer away from the high end steel sports watch. If money were less of an issue, I would definitely go full steam ahead on either a 15202st or a 5711. I think it\'s a watch to have when you have other watches. Altho...

True that.

SRP777 is definitely a tough as nails watch that can go to hell and back!

I find it to be a very satisfying watch.

 By: Harry2 : December 25th, 2016-09:02
It was the watch that drove me to sell my Explorer, after what I call \'the great betrayal\' (when Rolex fixed the hands). The quality is so good and it\'s just such a strong watch with some much value. Also, a very successful interpretation of the origin...

Very interesting post, Harry.

Indeed, I was interested in reading your thoughts about these two watches. The only thing I regret on the Portuguese is the presence of the date. A pity because it is a magnificent watch. As for the Panerai, this re edition of the original 2533 is so eye ...

As always , I am with you on the date window.

 By: Bounce781 : December 25th, 2016-00:35
Ruined that Portuguese for me The GO is a beauty too. I used to own that one. Merry Xmas

I Disagree!

 By: Harry2 : December 25th, 2016-00:50
I love the date now! I understand the problem with date windows of course. But I am a practical watch enthusiast. I need the date on my watch, because I always forget!

Hahaha no there is no need!

 By: Harry2 : December 25th, 2016-01:00
Differing tastes are the points f these discussions! I\'m glad you don\'t have the same problem as me, and you can have more pure watches!

That is a fantastic watch!

 By: Harry2 : December 25th, 2016-01:05
I have to say though, I really really like watches with long power reserves! I can\'t go back, it\'s just so convenient. Plus, I find it very enjoyable.

Oh yes: 5441 is a beauty.

 By: Bounce781 : December 25th, 2016-01:37
A bit out of my price range at present - but certainly on the wish list. You and I have very similar (NO DATE!) taste

It seems so. ;) [nt]

Go is such an interesting brand

 By: Harry2 : December 25th, 2016-00:53
I love their new stuff, including their new movement. What is the reference for this model? I have looked at the GO pilots, but I think they deserve some more thorough research. It\'s a shame that IWC has such a monopoly of the high end market for Pilot w...

Merry Christmas Harry!

love your post! I feel whilst it's a good idea to stick to 2 watches theme (say a dressy one and one for sports / rougher activities), if we want to get a 3rd or 4th or nth , just go for it lol! That's what ended up with me anyway Cheers Robin

Yea I definitely will!

Always nice to find out about other Purists\' collections and their reasons behind building them that way If you are a fan of pocket watch sized / derived movements in wrist watches, many Purists will tell you how over the moon they are with their Montbla...

You read my mind!

 By: Harry2 : December 25th, 2016-08:59
It is a handsome watch.... I can hear my bank account crying for mercy as we speak! It is such a beauty though, that movement is such a. Work of art. I think I\'d wear it the \'wrong\' (right?) side up! I\'d just have to live with no idea of what the date...

I believe that one model was made with a date...
