Horological Meandering

Brand identity and model counts

As my curation of wristwatch data continues, it's clear that some brands build identity by concentrating on a few model families (e.g., Breguet, with 8) while others go the other extreme (Ulyse Nardin with 42).

It feels a bit like Apple vs almost anyone else and I must admit that my sense of Breguet's identity is stronger than any other brand's.

For the marketing whizzes out there, what are the pros and cons of sticking to a few model families vs spawning many?

If it's of interest, i would be happy to share the (still developing) list if someone could advise me on the best way to insert a formatted table (not much, just models indented under each maker name, or something like that).  When I try to capture the table as an image it seems to appear here either too large or too small!
