AU, greetings from UK.

i think that Longines are a bit of a dark horse
company, especially in their earlier stuff. bear in mind that they continued to
make 'Agassiz' movements for tiffany etc. Agassiz were considered to be on a par
with VC and AP. i suppose you could compare them to the Grand seiko of the seiko
corp or lexus to Toyota.

i think a minute repeater p/watch from about 1890
would have been in the highest end of their range, cased in gold and owned
by a wealthy person.

as far as tone goes, i havent heard anything else
so i cant compare it, but i was a professional musician for a number of years so
ought to be able to work it out. the hour or deeper tone is very nice, the
minute or higher tone is ok, but has a slightly 'dead' edge to it or lack of
resonance. its in tune perfectly, but doesnt ring for as long as the
hour. i'm being a bit picky as it is 120 years old. the high bar may just
need a screw tightened or angle altered which i'm not going to do
myself.

overall i'm very happy with it, even the size is
only 48mm plus crown and repeater lever so its not much bigger than my BR01-94
or a Pam.

regards

Graham
