Horological Meandering

Addendum

To be objective, the weak points in the construction of a waterproof watch are the gaskets.  Adding a display back does add one gasket to the 4 that are already present in a standard case(crystal/case-frame, case-frame/case-back, case-frame/tube, tube/crown), 8 in a chrono case.
In general these gaskets only fail after many years of neglect, but they are always a possible weak point in the system.
If a watch is really going to be used near or under water regular services are of utmost importance.
As I understand it professional divers have their watches serviced and all the gaskets replaced about every 6 months to ensure they will not have any problems.
