I rmb someone

There was a time when Nautilus’s were less ubiquitous.
I once served one of the board members of Tata steel (the company that bought Jaguar and Land Rover). He was a quiet and tidy gentleman of little words, but I could tell he was a warm person. On his wrist, discreetly hidden under his crisp white shirt, was a nautilus with a white dial. The nautilus looked like it was on the correct wrist. That I could see was the piece that resonates with him.
Another time, I served a board member for a huge Japanese bank. I became close friends with him and his wife, they were like elderly mentors to me. On his wrist everyday, was a thin PP Golden Ellipse, on a mesh bracelet. It was always half-hidden. Beautiful moment to see these marvels.
Lastly, I served a managing director to a big cereal company. Italian as he is,he was impeccable with his dressing. He had a vast collection. But his go-to piece was always his Rolex Pepsi which he spoke so fondly of, and exclaimed it is the only piece that resonated with him.
I feel, there is one always one piece that will resonate with each collector, to induce him to wear it more often than others.
Well discussed there about the phases of this hobby. We start out broad, but over time, narrow down to what resonates.

1/17:Myers-Briggs Personality, what do they wear?

 By: Cookies : July 18th, 2020-20:14
On this lovely Sunday, I gave much thought to what I would write about. A series reflecting the entire spectrum of human personalities seemed like an interesting topic, relating to their likely or actualized horological choices. I always theorized that di...

I personally don't believe in these Myers Briggs personality tests. A lot of people are in multiple camps. Most people (not all) nowadays choose the Nautilus because it's the hot thing to get. It all started because a few footballers and movie stars were ...

Well observed!

I noticed the same thing today for the Nautilus and Royal Oak. I just attempted the 1st personality type in the next post: ISTP Hope you enjoy in the interpretation.

That’s true

It has a parallel for the watch hobby too. Too many articles about “the perfect 3/5/10 collections” that popular opinion has swayed to many common choices or “must haves” such as the Omega speedmaster, Rolex submariner, Cartier Tank etc. I’ve got a friend...

Some time ago I would be banned for such a post. You've forgotten to mention the investors 😉 If I had the money, I'd buy another first era RM in a minute, 004 first choice. I'm mostly a time only guy, but give me unlimited resources and I'll show you my m...

I’m very careful about sensitivities

Have to be sensitive to all people...I try my best. If I failed in this I will correct it or make a retraction immediately. How did you find this post?

Now that's someone who genuinely knows what he likes! RM 004! No apologies about it!

The post above definitely wasn't written to be demeaning to the Nautilus buyer who's buying it for the reasons of just having the hottest watch money can buy. It's just one individual's interpretation. I can see it might be interpreted as a bit demeaning ...

We see them from our nerdy point of view

Column wheels, black finishing, anglage, tapisserie, etc all those terms are likely unknown are definitely meaningless for those who buy watches just to show off or for investment. I must say that I respect more the former ones who buy and wear than those...

Yes, I am waiting for the lift to be empty

It is cloyingly hot in the current situation, where mass appeal skyrocketed the availability and prices of pieces that used to be an insider's favourite. Regarding fine art, I have a friend who only likes pieces from Henri Matisse and also gravitates towa...

I'll take the stairs! Good advice...

 By: patrick_y : July 19th, 2020-13:06
So, the stairs in this metaphor is to collect something else right? Maybe art... In full agreement to everything else you said.

Hi Patrick...

I try to remember that we were all “new comers” to watch collecting at some stage and our personal journey that has many highs and lows along the way. I certainly wouldn’t decry anyone for choosing to own a Nautilus along that journey or any other watch i...

Interesting points...

As a generalisation, most people also become more selective as they go through life.

I can't decry anyone for liking the Nautilus.

I can't decry anyone for liking the Nautilus. And yes, we are all newbies at one point. I definitely have no problem there. But it seems that people gravitate towards the Nautilus purely because they hear that the watch is the "hot" piece to get. I'll adm...

I’ll try to post interesting topics that will enhance the appreciation for these little trinkets of marvel.

+1. This will . . .

. . . turn out to be interesting, at the very least. ;-)

Fun idea!

I've taken these tests from multiple sources spread out years apart and get the same result. Those close to me have read the results and descriptions of my personality type and say it's very accurate from what they know of me. At the same time the scienti...
