Just received my Kurono Toki today, 37mm, fun and auspicious color. Do you think the Japanese brands will cause a huge impact to the watch industry like the Quartz crisis? I don’t think so. We now have great choices from Germany, UK, and very strong Indep...

Wow 🤩 These dials look 👀 amazing !

Excellent value for money definitely ! Kurono has great momentum now. You are “clued-in” not“ clueless” 😉

They could be an overflow effect, Gordon…

When we cannot buy the usual suspects, due to lack of inventory, the other tier brands will enjoy the benefits. I’m just a clueless follower 😂

I think you nailed it..

Quartz crisis was a different animal that truly threatened the mechanical industry. Nowadays there are so many options quartz, mechanical, hybrid from different houses. It’s a smorgasbord of choices from different countries. Nice watch BTW.

Even the smart watches, though higher sales, are not causing a dent…

As previously raised concerns by some reviews. I like smorgasbord, learnt a new word today. Thanks jp884. ...

What a beautiful pair!

Lovely dials that would work well in spring or fall!

Thanks my friend…

Need to spice up the grey skies here.

NLCC: congrats!

This timepiece punches higher than Patek and Lange pieces prices 20 times higher, in my opinion. The case, dial and hands are impeccable.

Lol…NLCC, No Longer Clueless Collector 🙈😅?

I like the 3 inner rings design and they catches light nicely. Thanks my friend.

I think some Japanese brands have intelligently adapted to 'Western' tastes

and clearly gather feedback from around the world about what trend can deliver good sales results. I am positively impressed by Seiko in the last 5 years, a real turnaround for global enthusiasts appeal. I am eagerly waiting for my trip to Japan to materi...

There are a few more Japanese micro brands that is gaining lots of attention…

Naoya Hida, Kikuchi Nakagawa, Masahiro Kikuno and you mentioned Hajime Asaoka. Good luck with your trip and hope you bag some.

Naoya Hida.. I could not put my finger on it

Love his simple watches, but budget is astronomical

We said that with Philippe Dufour few years ago when a Simplicity double it's retail at ~$100k....look at it today, sigh...

Well, that is why we are here, haha....Billionaires has no time for social media P

here are some samples

The dials look simple but are particularly intricate in their realisation. I can't quite judge the movements but I like the casework and their deep artisanal ethos Photo credits: Naoya Hida, Lifestyle Asia and Professionalwatches ...

Huge Congrats with your new Kurono. Excellent duo on this pic

I really like that dial color a lot and regret not getting one when possible. Still happy with my other Kurono,s🤗

Thanks for your kind words…

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 18th, 2021-17:10
There are now lots of them and you might be able to offer one close to the original retail, I’m also happy with the Chrono 2 and missed the Tiffany blue version…I’m good with his brand for now.

I have the First dark blue one and the Tiffany blue

Amazing watch ...

Totally with you here Raymond, the watch market is indeed featuring an unprecedented variety of strong brands, including several emerging and very serious Indies whose strength is often on the movement/technical side👍

 By: FabR : November 18th, 2021-10:02
Grand Seiko is a very solid brand with history though, and I think you made a great choice with your first green purchase there!😉 Enjoy both of these nice and fun dials!👍🥂

Yes and how nice for us consumers to be able to choose…

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 18th, 2021-17:23
Having said that, we’re still suckers for some brands, lol….even though we have the purchasing power. Unfortunately still no dinner date for us…sigh.

These are both wonderful choices

I'm a little wary of the way Japanese watchmakers market their products to a western market, but once that is ignored what's left are fine watches with strong stylistic characteristics. I like the two you have in the photo and wouldn't say no to either of...

With the global mobility and interconnectivity...

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 18th, 2021-17:52
You're be surprised their Marketing team and/or Head may not be Japanese anymore. Diversity and inclusion is the new buzz in business environment. I'm very selective due to limited funds and I have to choose wisely. Thanks for the endorsement for my choic...

Yes you're right about diversity in staffing. Nevertheless it's clear that GS uses its country-specific tropes aggressively. All companies will if they can. GS has a specific and deliberate approach to product design that forms part of brand identity

 By: Rosneathian : November 18th, 2021-18:18
I have a GS myself and I'm wearing it right now. It's a nice watch. I just don't care too much for the nature-themed 'inspirations', for instance. Most importantly here is the work we have to put in to separate watch from branding. The watches I like (qui...

It took me very very long to finally own a GS…

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 18th, 2021-18:51
The reason is like you mentioned, the themes. I’m not a fan of watches with way too many anniversaries, celebrations and milking the ideas of 4 seasons, nature, mountains, etc I think sometimes less it more and it will keep its attractive side. However, c...

Yes that last point is spot in. It takes effort to push back against heavy-handed branding. And sometimes we can lose sight of good watches because of it

 By: Rosneathian : November 18th, 2021-18:57
Anyway, I am sure you will enjoy both watches. I was too slow to pick up the exact GS you have - it's my favourite of the three. Very pretty indeed. Enjoy them!

This one was purchased online…some says fair and some says not.

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 18th, 2021-19:05
It works for me because I don’t have any prior purchase history. On the other hand, the 2 versions SBGW273/277 are sold by ADs and I’m dead sure I won’t stand a chance, without “relationship”. Thank you very much. Enjoy and wear yours in best of health to...

Congrats on the Toki!
