When you decided to buy your first luxury watch.

I’m a little curious when you decided to buy your first luxury watch was it something you had pre planned or was it more like I saw it and just bought it? I’m going to be 100% honest here I’m what you can call a watch hoarder. Every watch I probably bought in the last 10 years could have gotten me an Omega, GS, Cartier, GO etc. I had fallen into the dreaded TV shopping craze. I’m now starting to realize most not all I have is junk with some exceptions but most of it is gaudy overpriced/oversized mass produced garbage. I know they say there is a buyer for anything/everything but sometimes I wonder. In all honesty I could probably sell 90% of my collection keep the other 10% and use, the funds towards my first luxury watch but that’s easier said than done. My main problem is self control my mind is saying don’t spend keep saving up for that one watch you always wanted but my wallet is more like oh don’t listen to him buy buy buy lol.

My first "luxury watch"

 By: Thomas_3 : March 7th, 2023-18:18
was a Rolex DateJust, since then I have added a few other brands and another Rolex. In my opinion what is one person's luxury watch can be another person's "piece of junk" its all subjective. I won't buy anything I consider to be "junk" and I never go int...

My first "luxury" watch was a gold/steel daytona, which i bought probably around 13 years ago.

I know already a lot about brands, models and history about watches back then, but this was really the first purchase that kicked off the collecting. It was a very speacial feelning wearing this piece on a daily basis ( i had one watch only)! 😎 ...

I always dreamed to wear on one day a Swiss watch made from good materials. As i like drawing and designing, logo’s, emblems, patterns and forms, i was curious which brand and watch had for me the best balanced design and watch layout. At the end of the n...

I was very into cheap ornately embellished pocket watches with hunter cases. After many visits to drool over it; I finally stepped up and bought an 1890s Vacheron Constantin pocket watch. I still get chills every time I wind the crown and watch it come ba...

Look, i like your original way. As a child i was impressed at friends home to look at the nineteen century pocket watches. As you know the prices and you know, it is almost a miracle that it are affordable things. Tonight i came to the conclusion it is ma...

I bought my first “luxury watch.” It was a Tag Aquaracer. Hence my username, Aquaracer1. I knew it had to be mine, so I patiently saved up for 6 months. Was ecstatic when I first put it on my wrist. These days, more resources, so I rarely save like that f...

though you've got it worse than me. I can, also, never quite get comfortable on whether what I "really" want is to move up the quality/gorgeousness ladder or to own more watches.

I purchased a Rolex steel & gold Submariner w/blue dial, it was a way to reward myself for all the hard work and not so great jobs, I had done before.

In 1978 ...

I took my wife into Bailey, Banks, and Biddle in the King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania. Thirty minutes later I walked out with a stainless & gold Rolex GMT Master. The watch was $900.00 and together my wife and I were making just under 20k. She didn't ...

My first “luxury” watch, to me at the time, was a TAG Formula 1.

It was circa 1990, and I bought it after seeing one on a classmate my freshman year of college. Paid $150 at the local Service Merchandise department store. I funded that watch with lifeguarding/swimming teacher money, and wore it to the lake, the pool, a...

I remember watching for my purchases

as the packages came down that conveyor… it was so much more palpable than waiting for the UPS guy or the mail to arrive. Good times 🙂.

Not sure which of my first four "real" or luxury watches should be called "the first". This is due to money that did or did not come out of my pocket and just what 1st watch criteria should be.

Chronologically the first nice Swiss watch I bought was a NOS Heuer Regatta I bought at a swap meet at the tail end of the quartz crisis that I only paid $200 for. Then in the mid 90s I received a two tone (yellow and steel) Omega Seamaster from my wife a...

I was looking a lot at watches for several years without buying any, waiting for the right opportunity.

I finally started shopping around and tried on a few of the ones I was considering but nothing inspired me, so I decided to keep waiting longer. I then randomly stumbled on this piece unique Moritz Grossmann which was being auctioned new on Christie's. Th...

And for the next 29 years had a one watch collection. It was a Rolex YG DD that I wore nearly every day. After I sold it I began to assemble a group of watches that most people would not recognise. A good number of them were the result of learning about t...
