Peripheral date display - Like or dislike

What are your thoughts on a 'Peripheral date display' on timepieces. Take for example the ZEITWERK DATE, a timepiece many of us will know. Do you like the way the numbers are arranged around the dial? Is it too busy? I'm very interested to hear your thoug...

A flaw in this kind of watch - the "stacking" of many hands which can cause issues, especially with a dial that has hardware or markers sticking up from the dial surface and sunken subdials with hands. Cazalea ...  

I tend to prefer design of peripheral date with no hand from centre of the dial.
