Maybe not his grandfather

A lot of online articles say the watch was commissioned by Churchill’s grandfather, but he died in 1883, seven years before the piece was commissioned. Emmanuel Breguet writes in Breguet, Watchmakers Since 1775, that the watch was commissioned by the Churchill’s uncle, who I imagine was George Spencer-Churchill, the 8th Duke of Marlborough.

Visited the newly refurbished Churchill museum at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock UK yesterday and saw on display the pocket watch described as a 21st birthday present from Winston's father. Lots of other stuff on display were sadly replica artefacts and I won...
