I love the dial and agree it's not a watch that screams "look at me."

But it happens. At a party, wearing a watch that I thought no one would recognise, one of the guests grabbed my hand and asked in a loud voice, "Is that real?" I told him "I hope so, other wise I paid way too much."

Horological Harassment -- Has It Happened to You?

 By: jiggerly-cool : March 31st, 2021-03:22
"Is buying expensive watches how you spend your money?" asked my boss, eyebrow arched, hand gesturing to the Pam 655 on my wrist. This was after a department meeting, as were walking back to our desks. There's an adage, one should not wear a watch better ...

Even better!

+++1!

It happens all the time to me!

A Tudor Black Bay is my everyday solution watch... Not today! ...

Working a suits, it allow me to be discrete to some degree with my watches at work. Working from home like this year is the perfect solution as I can now wear my PAM to work! But I would not wear them “at” work...

I have more chance to get under the radar with my 1815 up down due to its size and white gold color then most of my PAM

Just tell them that

you are a rich kid BEFORE you start your new job (and after you were hired) - then no-one will wonder

Boss or not, I would tell him to mind his own business

And moreover would make it clear that this is your watch to work in your garden, that the more expensive ones you enjoy on your own. The more shocking the better 😀. But perhaps that is my European background. Keep enjoying your nice watch. Dirk

A big +1!

hasn't happened to me

but admittedly I am the boss where I work. Are you sure he meant the remark as criticism - perhaps it was a clumsy attempt at a compliment especially since this is not an easy watch to spot at all. Best Andreas

+1 That's what I would've said.

I like the sound of this.

It's also worth noting for your sake that a lot of this kind of harassment (a lot of a lot of kinds of harassment!) tends to be a more serious matter to the harassed than it is to the harasser. There are various (important!) moral points to be taken from ...

Agreed! And sorry...

I realize it looked like I was addressing you, FabR, in the body of my post, when I meant to be addressing the OP, jiggerly-cool

As someone who works in a different kind of environment, I admit to worrying about this a lot

I'm not worried about getting harassment as such... I'm worried about my colleagues and departmental superiors getting the right idea about my financial situation! (None of them could afford the stuff I wear even if they wanted to)

TBH I'm not a fan of the idea of wearing an expensive watch to work, whether it's flashy or not, at least in most workplace settings

If you're an employee, you have to worry about doing anything to suggest you don't need a raise. And even if you're the boss, you need to avoid pissing off the employees who you will undoubtedly have slaving away for a fraction of a % of equity. You gener...

Your boss showed you a complete lack of respect, no doubt you should take it up with your HR department.

The remark wasn't really about or directed to the watch. It was plainly derogatory towards your personal decision making and, by extension, your general self competency.

Don’t deny or be defensive...

... speak to him about how it’s your passion, and why you enjoy watches and how’s its becoming increasingly appreciated. You may want to drop in a bit about how being smart and knowing enough helps make this financially less onerous than it may appear. I ...

I wouldn't say anything in response.

It is NO ONE'S business, outside of your spouse, if you have one what you spend your discretionary income on. As long as the bills are paid on time spend as much as you want on what you want without having to explain any of it.
