Vintage....

 By: tempusfugit : June 7th, 2009-13:44
My interests have drifted towards vintage lately.... How about a discussion of the wisdom of creating a forum for vintage watches? The choice is to discuss vintage pieces under the brand forum vs. having a forum for vintage generic discussion. I notice ce...

Vintage discussion is always relevant IMO...

 By: dxboon : June 7th, 2009-14:12
...although I do not want to access it via a separate vintage only forum. For discussion points about non-represented (in the sense of not having its own existing dedicated forum) brands like your UG for example (a fantastic looking piece BTW!), let's tal...

I agree

With Daos and Nicolas. I think there is a healthy amount of discussion about vintage watches on Purists across many relevent forums. Where a watch has a forum it appears there, and where it does'nt it's on HoMe. This is the same principal for new brands t...

Vintage....

discussions often take place in this forum If, for example you check Blancpain, JLC & Rolex forums you will find plenty. And, of course, they should be part of the conversations that take place in this forum Cheers

Good question, tempusfugit

 By: amanico : June 7th, 2009-22:36
We already have several fora, here, which regularly speak about Vintage watches, like: Rolex, Blancpain, Omega, JLC, Patek, Vacheron, GP, Panerai. At HoMe, we often have some Vintage discussions, for Brands which don't have a dedicated forum. So, we had s...

A moderator needn't have complete knowledge . . .

Appreciate the thoughtful responses....

The logic is compelling to continue as is without developing a forum specifically for vintage pieces. And, Nicolas, I, also, wondered about the ability of any single moderator to manage such a discussion board with a wide-ranging subject matter (which may...

Yep, Polerouter Sub, my friend.

Curious about that Hamilton Electric.

 By: masterspiece : June 8th, 2009-13:20
Is there something different about it, like the Buloiva's Tuning Fork, that sets it apart from being battery run or quartz? Just curious. BTW, the the case design of it. Thanks for pics! Aloha, Bob

They still have a hairspring and balance wheel

 By: BDLJ : June 8th, 2009-21:56
Hi Bob, They still have a balance wheel, but instead of a mainspring, the power from the battery runs electromagnets. I have a non-working 500a Hamilton electric that someone hamfistedly "adjusted" the contacts on. The case is in poor shape so I've never ...

It wasn't me! Honest! :-) [nt]

Hamilton Electric

 By: VPREGULATOR : June 10th, 2009-00:34
Its a hybrid sytem that has both battery power and a mechanical watch balance wheel and gear train. The ele ctric circuit is made and broken through microscopic contact points 5 times every second ie 18000 times every hour. This will of course lead to a l...

Universal Geneve India Map

 By: bsmitra : August 30th, 2015-22:58
Hi I logged in to praise your Universal geneve with India map and was wondering if there is a similar item for me to consider and what may possibly be its price? It is a beautiful watch, very very beautiful. Can you share closer pictures of dial? Or mail ...

Vintages have always been my real passion

 By: mrsnak : June 8th, 2009-09:06
Since the the brand forums up here can include discussions of their respective vintages, the ones that don't fall into those categories seem to be comfortably talked about in this forum. Ones like the vintage Hamiltons, Elgins, Bulovas, etc. Great to see ...

we have a nice Status Quo at the moment i think

 By: G99 : June 8th, 2009-15:46
everything works out nicely as it is, perhaps a Japanese/Asian forum is still required, but apart from that i think everythings covered very well. love the spaceview and Astronaut Snak. i wont say i miss all of my hummers as i kept a couple. i never wear ...

Agreed, Graham . . .
