Andrew, I completely agree. I have tried to explain to casual watch appreciating friends that much of the premium attributed to watch purchases from authorised dealers or boutiques lies in the sales experience or to put it crudely the "ego stroking" that the customer receives while purchasing a luxury item such as a watch. This experience is not to be disregarded, much like visiting a fine restaurant or a great hotel the service is very important but it is intangible and evaporates once it has been experienced. What remains after that purchasing experience is the intrinsic value of the watch, its reliability, craftsmanship and design.
Much like purchasing cars, I feel true value is to be had in purchasing watches pre-owned.
