Horological Meandering

I am seriously considering...........

 

Acquiring a watch from my birth year 1958.

I do already own this Omega Seamaster allegedly from 1958, but now on reflection & with initial lack of knowledge, I am now not quite sure how genuine it is!!!!

I have a fairly small budget for this project and the only additional complication I would like is the date.

Having carried out research on the usual websites, Omega feature quite frequently.

Could members please give their thoughts on what is out there, what they have got and of course photos are very much welcome. smile

They have the "extract from the archives" that is very reliable and will assure you that you got the correct year. Of course, there are other brands (JLC etc.) but I don't know how reliable are their dating process. Cheers, Nilo

You have many watches which are very interesting from 1958! Two watches could be interesting to own, in a much smaller budget than those mentionned above. JLC E 329: Even if its production started in 1957, but it was in the JLC 1958 Catalog. JLC Memovox ...

Geophysic or Memovox Parking! But, I guess the Geo doesn't conunt as smaller budget watch... :( This is a scan from the Swedish 1958 Omega Catalogue with the version closest to yours. On this one the minute track is above the 12... Best Blomman ...  

What about those showing the date?

As, primarily the date would come in very handy. Art, thank you for confirming my suspicions!!! Nicolas, for some reason I can't see the photos that you kindly attached, but I shall research them. Thanks to all comments & photos so far. :)

The Geophysic is right up there (and has the advantage of being a chronometre movement). Of course, Rolex can fit almost any year: unfortunately, the Rolex from 1958 has taken on something of an aura. Best wishes in the hunt: please keep us posted. Cheers...
