Questions about regulator, free sprung balance and fixed vs mobile stud holder
I understand free sprung balance is preferred by some to an index regulator because they feel the free sprung option secures the hairspring better. The regulator pin and boot which holds the hairspring after the stud holder is not a secure hold because this 'play' gives adjustibility to the regulator for the movement rate. In the event of a knock, there arises a chance the stud will shift and hence your rate will be off.
1) But what about a mobile vs fixed stud holder? They are used to adjust the beat of the hairspring(not rate). Are they easier to be knocked off the adjusted position like in the example of a regulator vs free sprung balance?
2) What are the benefits of a swan neck regulator vs a normal regulator besides the aesthetics? Is it a more secure of attachment for the regulator pin and boot(if swan neck regulator has one) as compared to a normal regulator design?
3) Can you tell me if the below circled parts are fixed or mobile stud holders? (Apologies for not crediting the pics)
Thanks, Don...
