Glashütte Original

I also noticed this change that came with the (laudable) move to a free-sprung balance. However...

It lead to this compromise whereby GO had to come up with a solution to retain its visual identity. When Lange switched to using a free-sprung balance (new models started with the RL around 2006) they retained the functionality of the swan-neck fine adjustment by re-purposing it as a beat adjustment. GO already had a swan-neck adjustment for beat adjustment, so they didn't have this option.

Giving up the double swan neck would really require a change to the identity of this collection, so it's understandable to me that they chose to avoid that. Their choice to retain their visual identity, and re-purpose the fine adjustment swan neck as a pointer for reading the beat adjustment is about as good of a solution as I can imagine (indeed, I would not have thought of this).

Cheers,
Brandon
