Glashutte Original Senator Chronometer - ownership review

 By: MichaelC : May 30th, 2012-11:08
At long last, I am pleased to share my review of the exquisite Senator Chronometer. Officially presented on March 26, 2009 at Baselworld, I knew immediately this was a watch I wanted to own. I have long been attracted to chronometers. As it applies to a w...

You know how much I love this G.O.

 By: amanico : May 30th, 2012-11:32
Sober, with a look which is very typical and attracting. And a nice movvement. And a fine case. Nothing can beat an in the real experience, Michael. Thanks for sharing your view on this one! Best, Nicolas.

You are so fast, I thought I could sneak all 4 parts in before you saw. Thanks Nicolas. This watch is real meaningful to me.

Thank you! [nt]

Glashutte Original Senator Chronometer review - Part II

 By: MichaelC : May 30th, 2012-12:37
Let's get started by discussing the manufacture caliber 58-01 and its attributes. If you are going to write the word "CHRONOMETER" on your dial, you better be able to deliver on accuracy. Against my atomic clock, my sample runs within 1 second per day whe...

Fidgeting ...

 By: AndrewD : June 1st, 2012-04:53
Very nice watch and review, Michael. I am similar to others who respect the chronometer ethos, in that I love what GO did with the movement hand synchronization and time setting. I am interested to know your techniques for 'fidgeting' the AP's. I also syn...

Tricks of the trade

 By: MichaelC : June 1st, 2012-06:30
On the JLC based movement Offshores (caliber 2326), I pull the crown at 0 seconds and set the minute hand pretty much exactly between 2 minute markers. I then make sure to reverse the crown and so the pressure is not forward. There is a window of play the...

Glashutte Original Senator Chronometer review - Part III

 By: MichaelC : May 30th, 2012-13:17
As I have posted before, I am always drawn to a watch's case. With a diameter of 42mm and a thickness of just over 12mm, the Senator Chronometer has generous proportions, and probably what I consider a perfect size on my wrist. I opted for the white gold ...

Glashutte Original Senator Chronometer review - Part IV & conclusion

 By: MichaelC : May 30th, 2012-13:24
As I arrive at the final part of the review, I am reminded of my only possible criticism of the watch. The Senator Chronometer is tightly fitted to a beautiful Louisiana alligator strap. So far so good... until I first tried the piece on and found my 6.75...

thanks for the review!

Thanks a lot for this superb review Michael

 By: foversta : May 30th, 2012-14:53
It is a watch I considered. But I would have prefered it without the date even if I understand the reason why of its presence. Thanks a lot for this very comprehensive review. Fx

I know many agree with you.

 By: MichaelC : June 1st, 2012-06:32
I guess Glashutte hooked me either way. Perhaps it is another topic for another thread, but maybe a dateless SC will appear in the future? That could be a unique twist on a "Limited Edition".

Great exhaustive review

By: Mark in Paris : May 30th, 2012-15:03
Funny as I could have written the 1st sentences. I also particularly like Marine chronometers, for the accuracy goals and the type of design. And concerning GO, this is my favorite timepiece, and I think my favorite Marine chronometer above the UN or the ...

Thank you Mark.

 By: MichaelC : June 1st, 2012-06:33
I honestly had intentions of this review for over a year, but never found the window of time I needed to complete it. I write best when I go straight through and keep my thoughts organized, so I had to do it all at once.

Great review!

 By: marcjlmd : May 30th, 2012-20:25
I have enjoyed this watch as well since Dec 2009. It remains one of my favorites. My only gripe is that my wrist is really too small to absorb the 42mm case. Much better for me would be 38mm. Thanks for your great review. Marc

I remember we acquired it about the same time.

 By: MichaelC : June 1st, 2012-06:35
I am lucky with my wrist, as even though it is small it has a very wide and flat section on top, so larger cases sit fine. Glad you continue to enjoy your piece

Well written, balanced review...

 By: KIH : May 30th, 2012-22:36
... thank you, Michael! This particular model has been wandering in my head since its debut a few years ago. At one time, I even placed an order - but canceled due to totally irrelevant financial reason. I am still on the fence - the size! I totally agree...

I appreciate the kind words Ken.

 By: MichaelC : June 1st, 2012-06:50
I really feel it wears a little smaller if anything. That surprises me to say because the modest size to the bezel allows for a large diameter dial, which usually makes a piece look bigger.

Michael, it is ironic that you write this review today

 By: docsnov : May 30th, 2012-23:24
as I just bought a rose gold senator chronometer today while in New York. I have loved this watch ever since I first saw it in pictures and it was even better live which led to my purchase. I agree with everything you have said about the watch. I am alway...

Congratulations Stewart!

 By: MichaelC : June 1st, 2012-06:57
And welcome to the SC Club ;-) I find on some watches when you are on the tightest hole the clasp uncomfortably rides up one side of the wrist. Maybe see if the dealer can help you with a short strap? I look forward to some pictures of the rose gold versi...

Great review and stunning pictures...

I was lucky enough to try this watch on several weeks ago and agree with you about its beauty, especially the silver grained dial. What I could not discern, especially from the quick time on my wrist, was the watch's many incredible technical features, pa...

First, I have to admit a total bias in favor of this watch. I loved it upon release and it remains, in my mind, one of the best offerings from GO. It's just a classy timepiece. It showcases elements that I personally look for in a watch that should stand ...

Very well put Daos.

I do think it will age nicely and always appeal to me. It really is a successful design on so many levels. Cheers to you chica ;-)

A great review of a fantastic watch! Love the setting mechanism of this watch; zero-reset, minute notching. A great way to get the time set correctly. Really wanted to know more about the clasp and the overall comfort of this watch, along with how the sti...

The comfort is superb.

 By: MichaelC : June 3rd, 2012-17:55
On my wrist I credit that in part to the "short" strap. When I first wore it, being on the tightest hole made the clasp ride up to the side of the wrist. Now it is on the third hole or so and the clasp centers better. The strap is reinforced where it atta...

Great review of a gorgeous timepiece.

Love it, inside and outside. Three people have trusted me, and have bought this watch because of my advice, that makes me feel happy. Thanks for sharing. Vte

It is very easy to recommend...

And in my opinion can be suited for many different collectors. I myself remain drawn to sports watches, yet this GO appeals to me as much as anything else I have owned.

GREAT review and great photos..

I need to get a better camera and rig a light box to really capture this watch. I snapped all new photos for the review as I was writing it, utilizing various parts of the office!

Great review

Great review on a very understated and beautiful GO. Thanks for the real world insight into this great beauty of a watch. I've yet to be able to see and try one on in the flesh, but am motivated now to double my efforts in checking it out. Thanks for this...

Excellent Richard, I hope you get to try one.

I bought the piece sight unseen but had a strong feeling for it. Please follow up with your opinions after you track one down.

Well worth waiting for.

Great review, thank you. It's informative, sincere and accompanied with great pictures. This watch is on my list if financials allow a real expansion of my collection in future. Mfor all the reasons you mention, this is an incredible timepiece.

I think it is easier...

To be honest when you have had something for a awhile as opposed to a short time. The Senator Chronometer has not disappointed in any way for me.

Beautiful watch!

 By: pingtsai : June 5th, 2012-10:28
I always loved this watch too. Chronometers with white dials, roman numerals etc. have such classic elegant styling that can always be admired. Thank you for sharing and wish you lots of joy in wearing it!

In fact this one goes to the top of my list for a non-independent. There are others that are devoted to the tradition, the idea, or the dream of accuracy, but how many of them actually deliver on their promises? "However beautiful the strategy, you should...
