The Laureato-Olimpico, Ref 8017 … something different
Friends,
Sometimes folks say that they wish there was a 40 mm Laureato ...
Well, there is.
The Laureato-Olimpico, Ref 8017
A unique model as this is actually a combination of TWO models lines from GP.
The Olimpico line had been made for each Olympics since the 1960's.
Made as a Limited Edition to mark the 1996 Atlanta Olympics , the Laureato-Olimpico was made to retire the Olimpico line.
It was also made to START the chronograph line for the Laureato by using the first mechanical in-house movement, the cal. 3170
With Tritium applied indices and Lumed hands, we see a transition in many details from the past to the future.
So the end also marks the beginning in this milestone.
I believe this model to be a collectors piece. For now, folks are only starting to understand the history and provenance of this model carries. It is significant for the history of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato line.
Sharing a pic with ... ☀️ trying some new techniques in photography I just learned from another member.
